Here’s a tricky one that just occurred to me. If people are still following the Atkins Diet (I’m on the Anti-Atkins Diet myself), can they become vegetarian/vega without starving to death?

Yes,
They will live on tofu, salads, broccoli and other low carb vegetables. Boring diet
Most veg/vegans are more aware of good eating habits than that. The Atkins diet is very unhealthy. It will cause you to lose weight, but is unhealthy (cutting off your legs would help lose weight too, but I ain’t going to do that either.) Most vegetarians have little issues with weight if they’ve been doing it a while.
Technically, yes. You would need to live on vegetables, tofu, seitan and nuts. All of these are low carb. But the Atkins diet is a very unhealthy diet, regardless of whether you’re vegetarian or not.
The Atkins diet is basically low-carb and there are plenty of plant foods devoid of carbohydrates. But, there’s really no reason to avoid carbs.
They could probably drink large quantities of various vegetable oils vegetarians should they wish to could also eat vegetarian cheese eggs and milk.
But you needn’t worry judging by the huge quantities of the Atkins book littering up the charity shops in this country I don’t suspect many people vegetarian vegan or otherwise want to follow the Atkins diet.
Yes. I goggled it a while ago and found many vegans who had lost weight while on Atkins, you should do the same.
Atkins, after all, is not high-meat, it is low-carb.
I really doubt it.
Or maybe it’s possible, but not healthy whatsoever.
If you drink the drink you can.
Yes you can, but it’s more difficult and your food choices are more limited.
This low-carb board has a section just for vegetarians.http://forums.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay…
For those who are unfamiliar with the Atkins diet, he actually encourages the consumtion of fresh non-starchy vegetables. Most people going on Atkins or other low-carb diet who are doing it properly actually find that their vegetable consumption goes up.
Sure, people can be on the Atkins diet and still be vegan. There are vegan Atkins websites out there. The main qualification to being on the Atkins diet is gullibility and acting before thinking.
The Atkins diet works in making you thinner by starving your body of nutrients thus forcing your body to utilize the stored nutrients. It’s very hard on the body and, no offence to you personally, moronic. It’s a big joke designed to make money for the author who has a good laugh as he rolls around in all that money (well, he has passed away now). It took him 30 years to build his diet to a fad that peaked for only two years and is all but gone now, and for a good reason. It’s unhealthy and only caters to those susceptible to fads.
Get off that diet for your own good. Vegan or not, it’s bad.
Funny you should ask – I’m playing with that idea myself these days.
Before I went vegan, I did lose a TON of weight on Atkins. Yes, it works….really well. Is it healthy? Now, that’s a different question – one which I really don’t claim to have a definitive answer for.
Best I can figure, people looking to go vegan-Atkins could pull off a reasonable substitution with meat alternative products, and non-starchy greens. Wouldn’t do it longterm, but it might be okay for awhile…
Check out this site…it’s amusing, at least:http://herbivoremagazine.com/atkins.full…
I doubt any vegetarian/vegan would even think about going on the Atkins Diet. Eating a healthy veg diet means that dieting is unnecessary.
im not sure about atkins but I know you can with weight watchers.
Remember there aren’t necessarily fixed rules about vegetarianism, and there are different types that fit better for some than others. A room full of people could all be “vegetarians”, and all hold a different diet, it’s what about works for you, and your reasons for becoming one.
Vegetarian – does not eat any meat, poultry, fish or animal by-products such as animal fats or gelatin.
Lacto-ovo Vegetarian – Eats both dairy products and eggs.
Lacto Vegetarian – Eats dairy products but not eggs.
Ovo Vegetarian – Eats eggs but not dairy products.
Vegan – Does not eat dairy products, eggs or any other animal product. Will also usually not use any non-food items that come from animals such as leather, wool and silk.
Fruitarian – Diet consists mainly of raw fruit.
Macrobiotic – This is mainly vegetarian but macrobiotic diets often contain seafood. All other meat products are excluded, as are eggs and dairy products. There are different levels of macrobiotic diets.
This diet is based on the Chinese principles of ying (positive) and yang (negative), and people may follow it for philosophical or spiritual reasons.
Pescetarians/Semi/Demi-Vegetarians – Generally follow a vegetarian based diet but eat fish.
Flexitarian – This is a relatively new definiti, it describes someone who still eats meat but follows a vegetarian based diet for most of the time, or who will only occasionally eat meat.
