Im currently obse and have a body mass index of 38%, I have been trying to lose weight for yrs now but nothing seems to work ,I walk our dog for 30 min every second night regardless, as thats what the dog deserves as well, I try to eat helathy food but nothing seems to work im desperate and want to lose weight?, Im seriouly considering lap band surgery to help me lose weight, as i need to lose around 40 kg to be with in my healthy weight rang for my height and age.

You have to remember a band is a tool not a quick fix its a lot of work. I’m going on three weeks with the band and have lost 30 pounds I am very happy!!! I understand what you are going through and you will have people on here who think its just so easy to go on a diet and exercises we have done all that over and over. The bottom line is there is a person inside us just wanting to get out and after all we been through we know its not going to happen without some help, for me that help is the band I LOVE MY BAND I’m on my way to a better life, surgery for the band is about the safest surgery you can have the band is adjustable so you can restrict yourself as needed and loosen it up if you need more nutrition. I say to you—- You know what you want out of life and you know what you have to do to get there.. Do your research and find a great support group then go for it…. Good luck to you.
exercise and eating right is the answer, i opt for the gastric bypass and after several years the weight gain came back and only lasted for a short time therefore if all else fail do the lap band but try exercise and diet first
I think it’s worth talking to a doctor about. It’s not a miracle cure. You’ll still have to follow a diet plan and exercise routine, but something like 95% of Lap-Band patients see great results.
You’ll need to talk to your doc, and do a little research, weight the pros and cons and come to a decision, but I think it’s definitely worth looking into. Good luck!
I am more overweight than you and found that the correct nutrition (not a diet), exercise, and resistance training is the best way to lose weight.
I found that exercise and good nutrition are not enough especially after 40 years old. The reason is after 30 you start losing lean muscle. Lean muscle is what helps you burn more calories than exercise alone. So the older you get the harder it is to lose weight without resistance training. Resistance training can be done with bands or weights or both.
Good nutrition means eating 4 to 6 small to medium sized meals a day. Skipping breakfast is a common error many people make who are trying to lose weight. Of course it causes you to gain weight not lose it.
I restarted my exercise program after needing to take 6 months off due to medical reasons. I cycle 15 to 18 minutes a day, 5 to 6 days a week. I lift weights 1 day a week. This is my starting point. I eat healthy 90% of the time. I don’t beat myself up for eating a dessert a really want. I eat chocolate, 70%, quite often, at least once a week. What do I mean by healthy? Lean protein like fish, chicken, turkey, fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grain bread, whole grains, and healthy fats such as walnuts, almonds, olive oil, canola oil. In two weeks I’ve lost 7 inches!
My previous regime was 30 minutes 5 to 6 days per week cardio and 2 days a week resistance training. I lost 90 pounds, 59.5 inches, and 5 dress sizes in 10 months.
So it can be done. It takes eating well, exercise, and resistance training and you don’t need to do it perfect!
BTW good nutrition, exercise (cardio), and resistance training is something you must do for a lifetime. It isn’t just for losing weight. It needs to be a lifestyle change. For success you need to find a routine that suits you. You need to find cardio that you like and will do for the rest of your life. If you choose swimming or cycling you’ll need to add weight training (resistance training) for your weight bearing exercises.
For myself I happen to enjoy exercise and the feelings in my body. I like moving my body. I like cycling. It feels good to move. I think when you find what you enjoy the weight will come off easier too.
Also I don’t obsessively pay attention to a scale. I let my clothes do the talking and once a month I measure myself to keep track of the inches lost.
I track my fitness, nutrition, and resistance training paying closer attention to the resistance training. After a while good nutrition and fitness became a natural part of my life. I no longer count portions. I NEVER COUNTED CALORIES AND NEVER WILL!!! When I started I was very diligent and paid close attention to portion sizes. Now it isn’t necessary because I know what I need to eat. The most important part in beginning a routine is to start slow and be more accurate.
