Green tea weight loss is a hot topic in the area of weight loss. Green tea is a form of tea from asia that undergoes relatively minimal processing before being used to brew the hot drink. The lack of processing means it tends to retain its original color rather than the dark tea varieties we are more familiar with in the west. It seems green tea may have several benefits to offer our health, with some studies that tea drinkers have a lower incidence of problems such as heart disease and cancer as well as the well enjoying the known weight control benefit.
So why is it believed to be good for us? Green tea has been known to help burn fat in us humans and there are animal studies which have shown it to be beneficial in improving insulin sensitivity and reducing obesity. A study by a UK university demonstrated that fat burning was improved noticeably after consumption of a green tea extract so obviously it has sparked interest in weight loss circles.
Over the centuries, green tea has been used as a stimulant, a digestive aid and for the regulation of body temperature and blood sugar. Tea has long been thought of as a promoter of good health and as a promoter of healing during many diseases. Some studies suggest this marvelous drink can even help with diseases such as Alzheimer’s and MS and with the lowering of cholesterol though these claims are yet to be proven scientifically.
So how does green tea help us manage weight? It stimulates us to burn extra calories through thermogenesis, the process by which living things produce heat. Simply put, it helps to increase metabolism and therefore our core temperature. Producing more heat means we burn more calories than we otherwise would have done. Some researchers claim that drinking five cups of green tea every day can burn an extra seventy or eighty calories which may not sound like much but this may be all the difference to many people struggling to lose weight.
The idea of drinking lots of green tea may not be appealing but fortunately there is an alternative, green tea extract which can be taken in capsule form. The extract form provides the equivalent dose of many cups. Many people have reported impressive results with this form of green tea weight loss.
